A 1981 batch IPS officer, Meeran hails from Punjab and did her schooling from Fazilka, A postgraduate in English literature, from DAV college Jalandhar, she completed her Law and Ph.D. from Puna university. She is a Hubert H.Humphery Fellow.
Meeran Has worked in Nashik, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Pune and Delhi.She was Jt.Commissioner Crime Mumbai, Commissioner of Police Pune and Chief of Maharastra Prisons Department. Decorated with President police medal, she is recipient of many awards.She is a strong believer in citizens’ participation in the work of police and prisons.She currently heads the Bureau of Police Research and Development.
